Lee Ann Ward is a USA TODAY bestselling and award-winning author of eleven novels and is the founder and host of Writing Away Refuge. She is the former Senior Editor of Champagne Books and has taught novel writing workshops across the country. She brings her storyboarding workshop, "Drawing the Plot, What a Novel Canvas" to Writing Away. She will also host a Flash Fiction workshop and have a discussion on the pitfalls and scams that new writers should avoid.
Joyce Scarbrough is the author of eight novels and numerous short stories featured in multiple anthologies. Joyce is a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature and the founding senior editor of Champagne Books. She is a freelance editor and book coach. Joyce brings her workshop, "Fine-Tuning High Def Characters (No Special Glasses Required) to Writing Away.
Jessica Felleman is a literary agent with Jennifer Lyons Literary Agency. Jessica began her publishing career in Los Angeles after receiving her MFA in writing from CalArts. She relocated to New York in 2015, where she spent 5 years at a mid-sized agency before joining the Jennifer Lyons Agency. Now she brings her workshop on "Query Letters and the Querying Process" to Writing Away.
Bryan Young is the President of the League of Utah Writers and works across many different media. His work as a writer and producer has been called "filmmaking gold" by the New York Times. He's published comic books, has been a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, StarWars.com, Star Wars Insider magazine, SYFY/Film, and was the founder and editor in chief of Geek News and the review site Big Shiny Robot. He has written several books and teaches writing for Writer's Digest, Script Magazine, and at the University of Utah. Bryan brings his workshop "Writing Great Dialogue" to Writing Away!
If you would like the recordings of all 6 workshops/discussions we'll be receiving at Writing Away, simply submit $100 (we have CashApp, Venmo, and PayPal payment options). **Be sure to include your full name and email address in the memo line.** The recordings will be sent via email within 7 days of the retreat's end--no later than November 1st.
