Covid Protocol for Writing Away Refuge
Safety is our greatest concern.
**COVID 19 PROTOCOL UPDATE as of July 2022**
Because Covid 19 protocol around the country is becoming more relaxed as the virus becomes more manageable, Writing Away Refuge is also following this same vein in the progression of the virus and its manageability. We do advise that you read the Covid Protocol below but do note that mask-wearing will now be optional. However, it is still at the discretion of Writing Away Staff when you are in a workshop or pitch session. If an agent or editor asks you to wear a mask, please do so, Thank you.
Covid 19 Protocol prior to July 2022
Due to the characteristic spiking and ever-changing COVID situation, the dates for our debut retreat are set for October 21-25,2022. It is our hopes that by those dates, more people will be vaccinated and COVID-19 will be even better "managed" as we all strive to return to normalcy.
But, in today's climate in the USA and worldwide concerning the virus, the risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. It is the nature of the beast, so to say. By attending Writing Away Refuge, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree to follow the guidelines put in place by Writing Away Refuge staff.
For all Lodging Attendees and Daily Retreat Attendees:
In accordance with public health guidelines, all attendees for the retreat (lodging attendees and retreat only attendees) will need to provide proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours before retreat arrival.
Find testing centers near you here.
FYI: **Second vaccine dose must be administered at least two weeks pre-retreat arrival.**
All Writing Away Refuge staff will be fully vaccinated or will have received a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of arrival to the retreat house.
Everyone attending the retreat will be required to have a mask that covers the nose and mouth, regardless of vaccination status. Masks will be required to be worn during retreat events such as workshops, pitches, and editor/agent panels. However, because of the intimate nature of Writing Away Refuge and the fact that we will be providing lodging and meals for 30 writers and staff, masks will not be required to be worn at all times, obviously during meals and in rooms or down times to write, etc. The staff asks that all attendees be mindful of others and the COVID climate we are in. Attendees are also required to put on masks whenever a staff member asks them to, as it is up to our staff's discretion at all times.
Please also note that the retreat house will be maintained for cleanliness per the guidelines of the public health authority concerning the Covid-19 virus.
**Our COVID-19 policy is subject to change as the situation evolves and public health officials are consulted.**
Covid has necessitated these precautions, but we are confident in our ability to follow protocol and fully expect this brand spanking new retreat to be one of the best you'll attend in 2022!
